Our living room tends to look…lived-in.
It’s not a surprise that the living room of my home looks like people actually live here, but the big shocker is how quickly it looks like we must not have any other rooms in the house!
Dirty socks litter the floor, blankets cover the furniture, school books pile up beside the sofa, newspapers overflow their cute storage basket, and baseball cards become a permanent decoration.
We may never plan for the living room to become a place for discarded clothes and several months worth of unread magazines, but that’s what tends to happen. The clutter piles up slowly and stealthily, sometimes even hiding in plain sight. (That clutter is sneaky, I tell you!)
Creating a Living Room You Love to Live In
Our goal for the living room really shouldn’t be to have a pristine area where everyone is afraid to breathe. Our goal should be to create a comfortable space where everyone can relax and enjoy being at home.
Get rid of what doesn’t belong and search out permanent organizing solutions that will keep the room looking nice for more than a couple of hours. Then, take a few minutes every day to tidy things up so it never gets completely out of control. Personally, I do this every day as part of my morning routine.
And remember that it’s alright to get rid of stuff you don’t like or use. You have my permission (as though that matters!).
If your living room is overrun by clutter and piles, don’t give up. Don’t avoid addressing the stuff that’s keeping you from being able to feel a sense of peace when you sit down at the end of the day. Take a look at these ideas for what to do when there’s just too much to clean, grab a timer, and get to work.
You can do it! Let’s make a clutter-free clean living room we can love!
