I’m totally ready to lead you into another area of your home and encourage you to kick out the clutter.
But I can’t. I just can’t do it today.
I need a break, and I figure that maybe you need one, too.
You see, for the past couple of days, a not-so-nice word has been swirling around in my head. Actually, “swirling” sounds just a bit too tame. It’s been shooting, attacking, condemning.
The word that’s been taking punches at me is…failure.
So, instead of dealing with the mess and chaos and clutter in my house, today I need to deal with the mess and chaos and clutter in my heart.
As I look around my home, my pride points out the many ways I’ve failed as a homemaker. The clutter screams at me that I just can’t do anything right. It calls me lazy and incapable.
But want to know the real problem? In many ways, that’s the truth.
The truth is that I really am a failure. I really am lazy and a terrible homemaker at times. And I really am incapable of doing good on my own because I really am a sinner.
But the bigger truth is that I’ve been redeemed. God’s grace reached down into my messy life and chose to save me.
Finding Jesus First
Yes, I need to create a clutter-free clean home, but what I need more than anything is Jesus. I need to remember the truth of the gospel that never changes, regardless of how big my laundry pile is or how much stuff is on the living room floor.
You and I are not accepted by God based on the condition of our home (praise the Lord!). We are accepted by God based on the sacrifice of Jesus. Period.
Finding my kitchen counters under the piles of clutter is great. Finding Jesus instead of guilt and discouragement is even better.
