Today, for our next Clutter-Free Clean challenge, we’re cleaning out another space which, like the refrigerator, rarely makes it onto a decluttering list. We’re taking on the the pantry. (And, yes, I still have an unnatural fear of writing about the pantry. Thanks for asking.)
I have a lovely system for pantry organization, complete with lidded containers and glass canisters. It’s beautiful…when I don’t have boxes and plastic bags shoved (literally) into every possible space.
Today, I’m going to follow the same type of method I used for cleaning the refrigerator. Are you ready for a pantry makeover?
How to Clean the Pantry
1. Empty one shelf at a time.
2. Look at each item and only keep something if it is still fresh and will most likely get used.
3. Put things into see-thru containers whenever possible.
4. Put everything away, grouping like-items together.
I actually kind of like cleaning the pantry. Please don’t ask me why I don’t do it more often or why I let it get to be such a complete disaster. It’s one of the great mysteries of life.
If cleaning out the pantry doesn’t use up all your time and energy today, also tackle any other food storage. Clean out the cereal cabinet, your spices, or the stockpile of canned goods you keep in the basement. Or, print out these cleaning and organizing lists for the kitchen for lots of other ideas!
Now, doesn’t that feel better? Go ahead and reward yourself by eating those four mini-marshmallows someone left in the bottom of the bag and that only-somewhat-smushed granola bar you found under the bag of stale pretzels. You deserve it!
