Today for our Monthly To Do List we are going to attack the living room with a vacuum. Most weeks, I just sweep the “middles”, but this time I’m going to vacuum anything that doesn’t run out of my way first. Watch out, kids!
My best friend today will be the furniture attachment (the one that looks like a brush). I’ll pull the sofa and chair cushions onto the floor and take care of the crumbs and pieces of popcorn that somehow squeeze through the cracks (literally). I’ll vacuum the upholstery on the cushions, backs, and sides before I put them all back together.
I’ve also found that the furniture brush is the easiest way to dust the baseboards and lampshades. I told you I was going to clean whatever didn’t move out of my way!
To finish things off, I’ll hit the floors. If I have enough time, I’ll vacuum under the furniture and around the edges of the room before I get the middle. Dust, dirt, and crumbs don’t stand a chance!

I try to dust the downstairs of my house about once a week. Usually. I at least try to get to the dust before the kids start writing their names in it. But it’s good to occasionally do a more detailed dusting.
Instead of simply wiping the dust from around the lamp, I’ll actually move the lamp and dust under it. This is also a good time to go over the picture frames and candles you may have setting around. And, have you taken the time to lift up the DVD player lately?
I don’t know how on earth dust gets behind and under everything, but somehow it does. Grab a soft cloth, and a soft tissue to cover those sneezes, and let’s get to work!

There are some areas of our homes that just seem to attract clutter and “stuff”. If the living room happens to be one of those places at your house, then today’s task is for you.
First, get the extra “stuff” out of there. The backpacks, games, and toys need put away. Enlist some help, if needed. Next, take a few minutes to gather the outdated newspapers, toss last season’s catalogs, and stack up the library books.
Having all of the extra “stuff” out of there will make it easier to dust and vacuum in the coming days, and you’ll enjoy relaxing your clutter-free room.

For this week’s Monthly To Do List, I’m going to be working on some of the main living areas of my home. At the beginning of the week I’ll concentrate on the living room, then I’ll finish up the week in the dining room.
As always, adjust my challenges to fit your home. Does your basement TV room need more attention than your upstairs living room? Is your dining room table covered with six months worth of mail and school papers? Evaluate where your efforts are needed most, and use my ideas to guide you.
The point isn’t what you do, but that you’re doing something. Little by little, bit by bit. If any of the tasks seem too big for your particular situation, then grab a timer and do a Fast Fifteen, rather than trying to complete the entire room at once. Remember, something is better than nothing.
I hope that these Monthly To Do List ideas serve you as you serve your family.
“She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.” Proverbs 31:27
