I don't part with my money easily.  I guess you could call me a tightwad, a cheapskate, a scrooge.

But that wouldn't be very nice. So please don't.

I would prefer words like frugal, careful, thoughtful.

Now that feels better, doesn't it?

I don't go around spending my money without thinking and investigating.  Then thinking some more.

It's annoying, really.

I like to try on the clothes, walk around in the shoes, hold up the scarf.  I need to compare prices, analyze quality, hear about potential downfalls.  I want to flip through the book, read the reviews, talk to people who've used it.

Maybe you're like that, too.

So, instead of just telling you that you should buy The Ultimate Homemaking eBook Bundle that I've been praising all week, I thought I'd share which books I know about and some of the ones I'm excited to learn more about.  Sound good?

Books I Love...

Now, some of these books I've already read, some I've reviewed, some I own and have flipped through (but not actually read), and some I know the author enough to know it will be good even if I haven't had a chance to read it myself.

I reviewed Getting it Together a few months ago.  It has everything you need for setting up a home management notebook.  And when I say "everything," I mean everything.  Even if you don't make an entire notebook, the lovely printables make this book worth it!

Alright, Clean Enough just might be one of my very favorite cleaning books.  Yes, I've read enough books about house cleaning to have a favorite.  Don't laugh.  This book is so encouraging and filled with hope, not something you often find in a book about cleaning your house!  Click over to read my full review of Clean Enough.

I loved Tell Your Time! It is a great book for figuring out what's important in your life and scheduling your time accordingly.

I'm in That Works for Me!  For real.  A couple of my posts that were linked  to the "Works for Me Wednesday" link-up parties were added to this collection.  How cool is that?

I reviewed 100 Pound Loser at the beginning of the year. I think the thing I appreciated most about this book is that more than just telling us about a diet and exercise philosophy that worked for her, Jessica reminds us of the heart issues we often face when it comes to our health and weight. Always a needed message.

This book, Your Blogging Business, is an excerpt of my all-time favorite blogging book Intentional Blogger (which is not included in the sale).  Your Blogging Business will give you all the tax tips you need to keep your blogging business on the up-and-up.  Plus, it will give you a taste of all the good stuff you can find in Intentional Blogger.

Books I want to love...

I haven't read any of these books, but I can't wait to get started!  For me, these are the ones that make The Ultimate Homemaking eBook Bundle feel like Christmas in May.

Leigh Ann is a friend of mine, so I've seen some photos of her meals on Facebook.  Seriously, I have got to try some of these 20-Minute Meals recipes.  It makes me hungry just thinking about it!

I've been hearing glowing reviews of Embracing Beauty from friends of mine. I'm excited to be inspired to take care of my appearance for all the right reasons.

I need this book! I've been trying to be more intentional about memorizing God's Word, but it is always a challenge for me.  I hope that God's Word in My Heart will give me the focus and direction I need.

I have been wanting The No Brainer Wardrobe forever.  Um...because I actually want a no brainer wardrobe.

I saw Simple Blogging awhile back, and I really liked the idea of less computer time and better blogging. I've heard good things about this book, and the reviews are off the chart.

I could go on and on, but I just wanted to give you a taste of what you'll find in The Ultimate Homemaking eBook Bundle (click to purchase or learn more).  Personally, I'm thinking that it might make a perfect Mother's Day gift....for me!

I feel like I'm selling a Ginsu Knife Collection.

Is anyone old enough to remember those commercials? Anyone?

"It slices, it dices, it chops with ease, and it's all yours for just $29.97.

But that's not all...

When you order NOW, you also get this sharpener that can make the lid from a soup can slice right through this tomato. See?"

Because that's what we all want. To be able to slice our tomatoes with the lid off a tin can.

Anyway, that's sort of how I feel right now. Like a Ginsu Knife salesman.

Except, what I'm offering you won't slice or dice, and it won't do a thing for your tomatoes. Sorry.

But it's so much better. It's crazy  better.

And I'm just as excited as the knife guy (but without the Japanese accent).

For 6 days only, more than 75 widely-known bloggers and authors in the homemaking sphere have joined together to offer 97 of their most popular eBooks and eCourses, valued at just over $600, for the incredibly low price of $29.97!

Seriously.  Over $600 worth of stuff for just $29.97.  Crazy, right?

This library of homemaking helps include topics such as mothering, organization and cleaning, recipes and kitchen helps, home education, spiritual growth for both moms and kids, home décor and DIY, pregnancy and baby care, frugal living, health and fitness, and even work-from-home and financial tools.

We firmly believe that you will not find a more comprehensive collection of homemaking resources anywhere on the web, and particularly not in this price range.

But that's not all (see? I sound like the knife guy!).....

You'll also get over $140 of FREE Bonuses!

We’ve teamed up with 10 companies to bring you over $140 in bonus offers, giving you an affordable opportunity to get products you’ll use and love for only the cost of shipping, or in some cases, entirely for free!

When you purchase The Ultimate Homemaking eBook Collection, you will get instant access to any of the 97 eBooks and eCourses listed below.

(Please note: This collection is only available from 9 a.m. EST on April 29th to 11:59 p.m. EST on May 4th. There will be no late sales offered.)

So, do you want to know what you'll get?

DISCLAIMER 1: I am not a Bible scholar.
DISCLAIMER 2: The Bible scholars I looked up didn't have a lot to say about this passage.
DISCLAIMER 3: I really hate starting a post with disclaimers.

This little passage is one of my favorites from the book of Proverbs:

"By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established;
by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches." (Proverbs 24:3-4)

I tried to seek some insight into exactly what the writer of these verses had in mind when he penned them, but I didn't find a lot of guidance (See: Disclaimer 2, above). And, since I don't know a lick of Hebrew (See: Disclaimer 1, also above), I can't promise you that what I'm offering here is an exact exposition of the passage.

But instead of making a bunch of excuses (See: Disclaimer 3), I'm going to explain how I think these verses could be applied to homemaking, while praying that I stay in line with the greater truths of scripture. Serious praying going on over here!

I'm a house builder...a homemaker.

As a homemaker, my main job consists of building our house. No, I'm not out doing carpentry (excuse me while I laugh myself silly at that thought), but I'm making a home for my family.

I'm constructing relationships and creating an environment that will, hopefully, be both strong and beautiful. Make no mistake, we are called to build, establish, and fill our homes; and God has graciously shown us the way to do those things well.

Reading these verses, there are three words that jump out at me: wisdom, understanding, knowledge. Now, like I said before, I don't know what they look like in the original language, but I do know that these words (at least the English words) are used a lot in the book of Proverbs.

And I know that all three of these qualities come from God. "For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding" (Proverbs 2:6). No Bible scholar needed there! True wisdom, understanding, and knowledge are from God.

"By wisdom a house is built..."

Foolishness comes from trusting in our own mind (Prov. 28:26), and wisdom comes from fearing God (Prov. 9:10). John MacArthur writes that "the fear of the Lord is a state of mind in which one's own attitudes, will, feelings, deeds, and goals are exchanged for God's."

Wisdom comes from knowing God enough that we view our world the way He does. It's found by sitting at the feet of Jesus and soaking up the Truths of His Word. Being wise means that our speech and actions are based on the teachings of scripture. Basically, "wisdom" is what keeps us from acting and talking like a fool.

"By understanding it is established..."

The word "understanding" seems to imply having an understanding of people and situations. Repeatedly in the book of Proverbs, we are shown how someone with understanding holds his (or her) temper and tongue (Prov. 11:12; 14:29; 17:27, to list a few). A person's wise response is based on a proper understanding of what's going on.

We are told that "a ruler who lacks understanding is a cruel oppressor" (Prov. 28:16). Oh, how many times have I been "cruel" by jumping to conclusions about my children and then dishing out discipline without understanding their hearts or actions? It's painful even to consider it.

From the opposite side of that spectrum, "On the lips of him who has understanding, wisdom is found" (Prov. 10:13). That's what I want. Like the ideal woman we see in Proverbs 31, I want to understand those around me so that I will "open my mouth with wisdom" (Prov. 31:26), rather than being a fool because I haven't tried to relate to others.

"By knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches."

Just like with wisdom, the fear of the Lord is also the beginning of knowledge (Prov. 1:7). We should deeply desire the insight that comes from having a better knowledge of God (Prov. 9:10).

But, while our knowledge of the God and the Bible holds the greatest benefits, being more knowledgable about the tasks the Lord has given us will enable us to more skillfully serve others and live intentionally in all aspects of life.

As a homemaker, I'm continually on the lookout for new and better ways to do my job. I desperately desire for the rooms of my home to be filled with "precious and pleasant riches," both literally and spiritually, but I often feel like I'm in over my head

Quite frankly, although I try to share a lot of homemaking knowledge around here, I still have a lot to learn. And since "an intelligent heart acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge" (Prov. 18:15), I should never stop educating myself.

There's a whole lot of wisdom, understanding, and knowledge coming our way.

I'm really excited because next week, I'm going to get a first-rate homemaking education. For 6 days only, more than 75 widely-known bloggers and authors in the homemaking sphere have joined together to offer 97 of their most popular eBooks and eCourses, valued at just over $600, for the incredibly low price of $29.97.  That's an awful lot of knowledge!

This library of homemaking helps include topics such as mothering, organization and cleaning, recipes and kitchen helps, home education, spiritual growth for both moms and kids, home décor and DIY, pregnancy and baby care, frugal living, health and fitness, and even work-from-home and financial tools.

I really believe that we won't find a more comprehensive collection of homemaking resources anywhere on the web, and particularly not in this price range. Plus, to make it even better, they've also teamed up with 10 companies to bring us over $140 in bonus offers, giving us an affordable opportunity to get products we’ll use and love for only the cost of shipping, or in some cases, entirely for free!

Please note that this collection is only available from 9 a.m. EST on April 29th to 11:59 p.m. EST on May 4th, and there will be no late sales offered. I'll be sharing the long list of books and freebies on Monday, so be sure to stop back over for all of the important details (two of my favorites, Clean Enough and Getting it Together are part of the mix!).

As I'm growing in wisdom, understanding, and knowledge as a homemaker, I need all the help I can get. This bundle will give me more training than I can even imagine!

(Disclosure: If you make a purchase using a link on this page, I may earn a commission to help support this site...for which I am incredibly grateful.)

This week, I've shared with you my deepest, darkest secrets about homemaking.

Well, maybe they weren't deep or dark. Or secrets.

But I did tell you that sometimes I'd rather move than deal with the condition of my house, and I admitted to wanting to be perfect but having to settle for being me instead.

See? Those are a little deep and dark.

More importantly, I shared that getting back to the basics of homemaking is necessary for managing this crazy life of mine. My friend Jenni from Live Called gets it. Her book Clean Enough: Simple Solutions for the Overwhelmed Homemaker was released this week, and it couldn't have come at a better time. It's packed full of practical tips and advice for cleaning and organizing our homes.

Just like the title suggests, this book isn't about perfection; it's about reality. It's about figuring out the level of clean that is important to you and your family, and then working smart to achieve your goals. It's an encouraging read that will challenge your heart while improving your housekeeping.

What you'll find in Clean Enough:

  • Encouragement for you in your role as a homemaker
  • Suggestions for improving your management skills
  • Directions for creating acheivable cleaning standards
  • Ideas for getting housework done with young children
  • Step-by-step instructions for decluttering your home
  • Tips to help you clean smart, not hard
  • Simple laundry solutions to make your life easier
  • “Think It Through” questions & “Follow Through” suggestions at the end of each chapter
  • Printable natural cleaning recipe cards and labels
  • Inspirational quotes to print, frame and display in your home
  • Recommended resources to help you become a less-stressed homemaker
  • And so much more!

If you're feeling overworked and overwhelmed, you really should check out Clean Enough: Simple Solutions for the Overwhelmed Homemaker. It will help you feel inspired, equipped and confident in the knowledge that perfection is not necessary for your success as a homemaker.

I have something to tell you that will get me nothing but dirty looks from all of Ohio and most of the greater Midwest: I like snow. Well, I like it sometimes, and only in reasonable amounts. But when the conditions are just right, I like it.

As a kid, I would look out my bedroom window at night to see how much snow was falling under the streetlight at the corner of our backyard. Then, the next morning, I would listen to the radio as they rattled off the long list of school closings, hoping mine would make the cut.

That was back before you could simply click on a website to know the good news. I think when I was a kid, they were still chiseling the closings into stone, then sending word via carrier pigeon to the nearest telegraph station. But regardless of the method of transmission (or how many historical time periods I just referenced. or how impossible it would be for a carrier pigeon to deliver a message carved in stone), the news was bliss.

This morning, I actually texted my son's phone with the news that his school is closed so he could find out quickly and go right back to sleep. My, how times have changed! (Lucky kid.)

One thing that hasn't changed is the fact that I love a free snow day! I had some post ideas swirling around in my head today, but it's a snow day so you get the quick and easy version.

Here goes, in no particular order....

  • I want to make cut-out cookies. Because I didn't do any for Christmas. Or Valentine's Day. Just thought I'd let you know.
  •

  • You should read the first two chapters of Philippians. Right now. They really are life changing.
  •

  • I'm reading the book From Garbage to Gourmet. It is seriously good stuff. I love anything about being frugal, and this book is one of the best I've read. It's all about using up every bit of the food we buy to avoid wasting our money and our resources. It is packed with information, ideas, and recipes, and it's presented with lots of color and in snippets, so it's easy to read.

Riley was looking at it over my shoulder in the orthodontist's office yesterday, and even he liked it. I figure any book about food and frugal living that has the endorsement of a ten year-old boy must be worth reading. Today and tomorrow only, From Garbage to Gourmet is on sale for just $4.99 (that's 50% off!), which you'll easily save on groceries after just a week or two of applying the principles it teaches. Since, if you're anything like me, you'll forget to buy it until two minutes after the sale ends, you might want to click over to get your copy now. Don't worry, I'll wait until you get back.
  •

  • In other book news (like that intro?), my friend Kayse is practically giving away her book Getting It Together (click to read my review). If you have ever wanted to put together a homemaking binder, or if you simply need some cute printables to organize...well...everything, then you won't want to miss out on this $1 deal. Just use the code GETfor1. There are limited quantities at this price, so go ahead, and I'll wait for you to get back from buying this book, too.
  •

  • And with yet another infomercial (Hey, it's a snow day; I can do what I want.)...the talented ladies at Christian Mommy Blogger are sharing their knowledge and blogging skills with the rest of the world through their new consulting venture. I have to tell you that I love these girls! They're rock stars, and they don't make you feel like an idiot when you ask them if you're going to break the Internet. If you have a blog (or wish you did), you should check out their new services and enter to win their consulting giveaways. It's fine if you want to head on over there to learn more or enter to win ...I'm getting used to waiting.
  •

  • I love chocolate chip granola bars. Don't know why I just told you that, but it's true. And it's a snow day, so I get to say random, stupid stuff.

Hope you have a fun day making snow angels, or drinking hot coffee and tea, or organizing your kitchen cabinets. Whatever makes you happy. Personally, I plan on doing all of that. Except making snow angels. While I love looking at the snow, I totally hate how cold it is. But that's alright because (say it with me) it's a snow day!

What is one thing you would like to do on a snow day? And how do you feel about chocolate chip granola bars? Please share!

When I first heard about this book, I knew I wanted to read it. What I didn't know is how much I needed  to read it.

My life is full. It's full of driving to the far ends of the earth (and back again), and washing a never ending pile of dishes, and picking up dirty socks off the floor, and telling children to speak kindly. It's also full of folding the laundry, spending time with my husband, educating my kids, and cleaning dirty toilets. Not necessarily in that order.

Oh, and I also have a blog.

As part of my goals for this year, I've been trying to be a better business woman, which, for me, translates into being a better blogger. I've wanted to fit in more blog work around the housework....and figure out how to fit in all the housework around the extra blog work. I'd like to say it's been a graceful balancing act, but it's been much more like a tug-of-war. And the big 'ol mud pit in the middle is the constant temptation to waste my time. I spend far too much of every day in the "pit".

So, when I heard that Christin (from the blog Joyful Mothering) had written a book about being a blogger while being a mom, I jumped at the chance to read it. I wanted to hear how this amazing woman manages to fit it all into a day. I desperately wanted some scheduling tips and some blogging wisdom. I was hoping learn how to better manage my home life while staying connected to my online world.

Well, Blog at Home Mom didn't disappoint. It has practical how-to's on nearly every page. It encouraged me to make a schedule for my home (and stick to it!) and make a plan for my blog. It also dealt me a heavy dose of conviction about the time I've been aimlessly wasting. It was just what I was looking for.

But there was something else I got that I didn't even know I needed. You see, I thought this book was mostly about being a better blogger while being a mom. I was wrong. It is much more about being a better mom while being a blogger.

Christin spoke truth to my heart. While I was searching for a method to manipulate my time and tasks, she reminded that, "Motherhood cannot be reduced to a task list. Motherhood is done from the heart."

I had forgotten that. I've been so busy being busy that I have often overlooked the heart. My heart and the hearts of my children. My blog and the housework are important, but they aren't the most important. Christin pleads with me again, "Moms, please don't leave this important calling up to fate or chance."  Maybe that's what I've been doing.  At least a little bit.

Blog at Home Mom is a book that I want to read again.  Slowly this time.  I want to soak it up and put it into practice.  I want it to change me.  I hope it already has.

And, despite the title, it isn't only for bloggers.  It is for anyone who works inside or outside of the home.  It is for the mom who enjoys scrapbooking or struggles with finding the time to read more books.  It is for anyone who has a job or a hobby.  It is for the mom who needs to remember to be intentional about what matters.
