When I shared with you my new and (hopefully) improved calendar system, I mentioned that I've just started using a weekly calendar page from Jones Design Company. My weekly calendar has a column for each day of the week and an area at the bottom for listing To Do's and prayer requests. This simple little page is quickly becoming an essential tool for creating a better ordinary for my home and family.
When I sat down this weekend to update and sync my main calendars, I also printed off this calendar to begin scheduling my week (actually, I subscribed to JDC Monthly, so mine is the same format but even prettier!).
- Using the calendars on my wall and my iPad, I filled in any important events or appointments.
- I added the routine things I do each week, like take my daughter to her classes on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
- Next, at the bottom I listed some things I want to get done this week.
- I also wrote in a few "To Do's" on some of the days, taking into account what we have scheduled.
- Finally, I jotted down some prayer reminders and the names of a couple friends I need to email.
It took less than five minutes, but I am already so much more productive because of using it. Each morning I can see what special events we may have, remember anything the kids need, and write in some tasks, both big and small, that I want to do that day. I cross off what I accomplish, and I move to another day the things I didn't get to. I am focused and motivated in a way that I haven't been for a long time.
In the past, I've tried using my iPad for the same thing, but I always forgot to open the page or application I needed. I would turn it on to look at my list, but check my email instead! Now, I have a pretty little paper in front of me all day long. There's just something about having that list quietly shouting to me that makes me want to cross it all off. Exactly what I need!
