As I'm working to get control over my out-of-control house, there is one particular area of my home that seems to have a neon sign screaming "HELP NEEDED" hanging over it. I've tried to ignore it. I've tried to overlook it. I've tried to pretend that the "little" mess isn't mutating into a big problem. But, since simply closing my eyes doesn't make the clutter disappear (trust me, I've tried that too), I guess I'd better roll up my sleeves and get to work. So, for my Monthly To Do List this week I'm going to face it. I'm going to tackle this problem spot. I'm going in, and I'm taking my children with me (poor kids!). That's right! I'm headed.....upstairs. If I'm not back in half an hour, go call for help.
Because we have a first-floor master bedroom, I rarely go upstairs during the day. But when it comes time to put the kids to bed, I usually drag my feet up the steps, look around, sigh, and tell the kids that the mess needs taken care of.....tomorrow. Next night, the same thing. Over and over, until I finally need waders to walk into our loft. Some of the stuff belongs to them. Some of it belongs to me. All of it needs taken care of. So, between the hall, loft, and the two bedrooms, I think we'll have our work cut out for us.
I would love to take an entire afternoon, work like crazy for several hours, then collapse with exhaustion onto the clean floor. But, with the sunshine and spring air begging my kids to play outside, I think it would be wise to break up the tasks into bite-sized pieces. If everything doesn't get done this week, we can always carry over a few things into next week. I'll keep you updated on the areas I'm focusing on. I hope you'll join me as I tackle my trouble spot. Now, I think I'll go look for the timer, find some music to put on, and call the kids. We've got some rooms to rescue!
