I did it. I finally got my Christmas decorations taken down and put away. The kids begged me to leave them up "just a little longer", but really, I think a Valentine's Day tree would be a bit extreme! So, the ornaments have been banished to the basement for another eleven months...well, I guess it's just ten and a half months now. I don't really enjoy taking down all those pretty and shiny Christmas lights and wreaths. It isn't just that I hate packing up and hauling everything downstairs (although, it isn't one of my favorite things). It's the fact that once everything is put away, the house looks empty and sad. It feels the same way every year. It reveals our need to do more general decorating around here. Maybe THIS will be the year! But for now, there's no time for staring at the empty house. On to the next project...
If you look at the right side of the page, you'll see a box that says, "monthly to do list." This is where I'll list an area of my home that I'm focusing on for the week. I'll list or post about ideas for that particular area. These will be tasks that don't need done every day or even every week (maybe not even every month). For example, if my focus for the week is my kitchen, I might choose to clean out the cabinet under the sink. I don't really need to do this each and every week, but doing it once every month or two keeps it from being a big job.
For the month of January, it seems appropriate to focus on some of the sorting and organizing that we only do once a year - like putting away the Christmas decorations last week - or that will help get the new year started off on the right foot. This week I am focusing on paperwork. I have piles and files (and piles of files!) that need sorted through and organized. I'll share some of the tasks I'm doing throughout this week. I hope you'll join me!
